Our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is an easy, exciting, and FREE way to prepare your child for success in kindergarten and beyond!

Every book read to your child is an opportunity for early learning, and 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is here to help you achieve this goal! Reading books to your child exposes them to more words, and it helps them learn valuable pre-reading skills.

Any child that is not yet attending kindergarten (ages birth to 5 years old) is eligible to participate in this program.

Sign up by filling out our registration form and use our log to record the titles of completed books you’ve read. It counts if anyone reads a book to your child - caregivers, grandparents, brothers & sisters, even your favorite librarian!

Children often have a favorite book they want to read again and again. Feel free to log each time a book is read - the 1,000 books do not need to be unique titles.

When you listen to an audiobook or read on a device, list it on your reading log! Don’t forget, your library card gives you access to thousands of reading choices through Libby and Hoopla. Need help finding books to read with your child? Ask one of our Children’s Librarians, who are always happy to connect readers with a just right book.

Bring your completed log to the Circulation Desk in the Children's Room to receive a prize when you reach certain milestones along the way:

  • 100 Books - Sticker Sheet
  • 250 Books - Bookmark
  • 500 Books - Special Sticker & Crayon
  • 750 Books - Stress Ball
  • 1,000 Books - Tote Bag, Free Book, Bumper Sticker, and Certificate!

Happy reading!
