Library Bingo Card - blue border with 25 white tiles inset in red square and yellow "BINGO" label

September is National Library Card Signup Month! Renew your card, get a FREE replacement (usually $1) or sign up for a card for free. Fines will be waived all month; donate to the Grafton Food Bank instead. Play to Library Bingo celebrate!

Any MA resident is eligible for a Grafton Public Library card, but you may only have 1 card in the C/W MARS network. It is traditional to hold a card in your hometown library, and in the event that you get a card at another local library (e.g., Millbury) your local card is good to use in Grafton for physical materials. Please note that each library has a unique set of databases and electronic resources accessed by your Library Card number.

To get a card, staff need to see a picture ID as well as proof of current address (“residency” means you live, work, attend school or own property in Grafton or another MA town). A valid driver’s license, MA ID or student ID with your current address is fine, as is a photo ID plus something with your address such as a utility bill or report card.

Your first card is free. Replacement cards cost $1 – this fee is WAIVED during the month of September. Due to the Pandemic, you may now complete a library card application online. Please note that online applications are only good for digital resources until proof of residency is shown (call the Library to set up a Zoom appointment to show proof of identity/residency).

The Grafton Public Library belongs to the C/W MARS network, which means you can use your Grafton card at any Central Massachusetts library. Likewise, we also accept any Central Massachusetts card at the Grafton library. If you travel to another network, like Minuteman (greater Boston) or SAILS (Cape Cod), your Grafton card and a photo ID will allow use of another network as if you were a network cardholder. If you are traveling from outside of the network and have a card from another network, you may show an ID to get a Grafton card.

For help using your C/W MARS account and the Evergreen catalog, please visit https://www.cwmars.org/help/catalogaccount-help or call 508-839-4649 during library operating hours — Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm — for assistance.

If you have had a card in the past and have old fines or lost or overdue items, we are happy to work with you to restore library card privileges. In most cases, issues from past libraries need to be cleared up before a new Grafton Library Card is issued.

Borrowing Materials

Please bring your Grafton Library Card to the library every time you want to check out materials.

Most items (books, DVD series, videogames, kits, equipment, tools) may be checked out for three weeks. Exceptions are magazines, DVDs, and  new bestsellers, all of which check out for one week.

Renewals for another three weeks (or one week, depending on the type of material) are automatic, unless another patron has a hold request on the item.

Renewals may be done in person, on the phone, or online.

Grafton patrons may use the online catalog to place requests on items either checked out from us or not owned by us. You will need to create an account for yourself in order to use these services.

We offer a collection of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital magazines at https://cwmars.overdrive.com/cwmars-grafton/content. Electronic materials have different borrowing models – some are always available, while others, like print, have a waitlist. You may check out up to 10 items and place 10 holds at a time. You select the borrowing period of 7, 14, or 21 days, with a renewal if no one is waiting. You can also Manage Your Loan and return items early to allow the next borrow to get the material. Electronic items “disappear” when the lending period runs out.  There are no fines for digital materials.

Visit our 24/7 Digital Branch for a complete list of online resources you can access with your Grafton Library Card.

Your Grafton Library Card can also be used to request discount museum passes. Note that due to the Pandemic, not all attractions are open and honoring library discounts. Please call the museum ahead of time, then call the Library to reserve your Museum Pass.

  2. Click on the title of the item. This will bring you into the record.
  3. Once you are in the record, click on the “REQUEST” button to the right of the title.
  4. Select the library where you would like to pickup the item and click the “SUBMIT” button.
  5. If you have not already logged in to your account and you have located the item you would like to request:
    • Click on the title of the item. This will bring you into the record.
    • Once you are in the record, click on the “REQUEST” button to the right of the title.
    • Enter your library card number and PIN* in the appropriate boxes.
    • Select the library pickup location and click the “SUBMIT” button.

*If you forget your PIN, click “LOGIN” and then the “Forgot Your PIN?” graphic on the left. You must have an email on file with the library to use this feature.

For additional information and full instructions please ask for the C/W MARS ECommerce brochure or click “Help” at the top right of the library catalog screen and then the “Pay Online” tab.

ACCOUNT LIMITS

You may have up to 50 items checked out on your card. Network policies limit DVDs, CDs and audiobooks to ten per type, regardless of how many libraries you visit. Grafton Library policy allows patrons three DVDs from the Children’s Room and three DVDs from the adult selection per family. Families with more than three children may select one DVD for each child who is present in the library during their visit.

You may have up to 20 outstanding hold requests on your card.
