Grafton Public Library

Borrowing Policy

To get a Library card, please bring proof of residency (license, piece of cancelled mail, lease, etc) to any circulation desk. The first card is free. Replacement cards are $1.00. To borrow books, CDs, DVDs, and other items, please bring your Library Card in order to check out materials.

Borrowers are responsible for items checked out, and must pay fines or lost/damaged replacement costs. Lost/damaged materials fees go into a revolving account so materials can be replaced.

Your Grafton Library Card may be used at all C/W MARS member libraries. MA residents may use your Grafton Library Card with a photo ID to get a card from any other library in the Commonwealth. MA residents can also apply for a Boston Public Library eCard and use their electronic resources.

Cardholders may use the online catalog to place requests for items not available or items not owned by us. Log in with your Library card number and PIN (usually the last four digits of the phone number we have on file). Once logged in, you may create an account with a username and easy-to-remember password (we recommend at least 8 characters, including a capital letter, number and symbol).

Items not available in the C/W MARS network may be ordered from another MA through the Virtual Catalog, or at the Main Desk.

Item limits
You may have up to 50 items checked out on your card. Network policies limit DVDs, CDs and audiobooks to 10 per type, regardless of how many libraries you visit.
You may have up to 20 hold requests on your card at one time.

Note: Other libraries in the network may charge different fines. You may pay any fine at any participating library.

Fines revenue is turned in the Town of Grafton’s general fund. If you have $10 or more in fines and/or replacement costs, your account will be blocked and you will not be able to check out more materials until the account balance is under $10. Payment is accepted in person in cash or by check made out to the Grafton Public Library. If you have more than $5 in fines and fees, you may pay by credit card online; log in to your account at, and click “Pay Fines.” Receipts will be emailed to the address on your account.
