Get a Library Card

Apply online for a GPL card!

If you live, work, go to school, or own property in Grafton, you can get a free Grafton Public Library card! In fact, any MA resident is eligible for a card, but you may only have one account in the CW MARS network. It is traditional to hold a card in your hometown library, and in the event that you get a card at another local library (e.g., Millbury) your local card is good to use in Grafton for physical materials. Please note that each library has a unique set of databases and electronic resources accessed by your Library Card number.

To get a card, staff need to see a picture ID as well as proof of current address (“residency” means you live, work, attend school or own property in Grafton or another MA town). A valid driver’s license, MA ID or student ID with your current address is fine, as is a photo ID plus something with your address such as a utility bill or report card.

Your first card is free. Replacement cards cost $1 – this fee is WAIVED during the month of September. You may  complete a library card application online. Please note that online applications are only good for digital resources until proof of residency is shown (call the Library to set up a Zoom appointment to show proof of identity/residency).

We are now Fine Free.

The Grafton Public Library belongs to the CW MARS network, which means you can use your Grafton card at any Central Massachusetts library. Likewise, we also accept any Central Massachusetts card at the Grafton library. If you travel to another network, like Minuteman (greater Boston) or SAILS (Cape Cod), your Grafton card and a photo ID will allow use of another network as if you were a network cardholder. If you are traveling from outside of the network and have a card from another network, you may show an ID to get a Grafton card.

For help using your CW MARS account and the Evergreen catalog, please visit https://www.cwmars.org/help/catalogaccount-help or call 508-839-4649 during library operating hours — Mon-Thu 10am- 8pm and Fri-Sat 10-3pm — for assistance.

If you have had a card in the past and have old fines or lost or overdue items, we are happy to work with you to restore library card privileges. In most cases, issues from past libraries need to be cleared up before a new Grafton Library Card is issued.

Borrowing Materials

Please bring your Grafton Library Card to the library every time you want to check out materials.

Most items (books, DVD series, videogames, kits, equipment, tools) may be checked out for three (3) weeks. Exceptions are magazines, DVDs, and 7-Day books, all of which check out for one week.

Renewals for another three weeks (or one week, depending on the type of material) are automatic, unless another patron has a hold request on the item.

Renewals may be done in person, on the phone, or online.

Grafton patrons may use the online catalog, Evergreen, to place requests on items either checked out from us or not owned by us. You will need to create an account for yourself in order to use these services.

We offer a collection of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital magazines at https://cwmars.overdrive.com/cwmars-grafton/content. Your Grafton card allows to use the Overdrive collections for other networks in Massachusetts, just select a network from the Partner Libraries drop down menu, and search away. When you are ready to check out a selected item., you’ll use your CW MARS account to log in.

Electronic materials have different borrowing models – some are always available, while others, like print, have a waitlist. You may check out up to ten (10) digital items and place ten (10) digital holds at a time. You select the borrowing period of 7, 14, or 21 days, with a renewal if no one is waiting. You can also Manage Your Loan and return items early to allow the next borrow to get the material. Electronic items “disappear” when the lending period runs out.  There are no fines for digital materials.

Visit our 24/7 Digital Branch for a complete list of online resources you can access with your Grafton Library Card.

Your Grafton Library Card can also be used to request discount museum passes. Note that due to the Pandemic, not all attractions are open and honoring library discounts. Please call the museum ahead of time, then call the Library to reserve your Museum Pass.
