Frequently Asked Questions

Are we allowed to eat in the Children’s Room?

Yes! Snacks are welcome, but please remember we are a nut-free zone, so we ask that you refrain from bringing anything with peanuts or tree nuts.

Can my child be in the Children’s Room alone?

Per our Unattended Child policy, children ages 0-7 must be accompanied at all times by a parent/guardian/responsible caregiver who is at least 14 years of age. Children ages 8-12 may be left unaccompanied in the Children’s Room while their guardian pursues other activities in the Library, provided the child is able to use the Library independently, without supervision. Children ages 13 and older may use the Library without an adult in attendance, provided the child is able to use the Library independently, without supervision. Children ages 13-18 left unaccompanied must be able to contact a guardian in case of emergency.

Do you accept donations of toys?

Unfortunately no, we do not.

How old do you have to be to volunteer at the library?

The Grafton Public Library welcomes volunteer applications year round from applicants ages 14 and up. Volunteers work 1-3 hours per week and assist with various Library tasks under staff supervision. For more information about volunteering in the Children’s Room, please reach out to Cyndi Zarriello at gplkids@graftonlibrary.org.

What museum passes do you have for children & families?

The Boston Children’s Museum, Davis Farmland, the Discovery Museum, the Ecotarium, the Providence Children’s Museum, the Roger Williams Park Zoo, and the Butterfly Place. A full list of all of our available museum passes can be found here.

How old do you have to be to have a library card?

We can make a library card for a child of any age, including newborns, but in order to do so the child must be present with their legal guardian, who needs to present a photo ID and proof of address.
