Get a Library Card
The Grafton Public Library is a member of CWMARS, a group of over 160 libraries in central and western Massachusetts. Your library card can be used at any library in the CWMARS network. If you already have a card from a CWMARS library, you may use that card at the Grafton Public Library. Please note that each library has a unique set of databases and electronic resources accessed by your Library Card number.
A physical library card allows you to check out physical items including museum passes as well as electronic materials. To get a physical library card, please visit the library during our regular operating hours. Bring photo ID showing your name and proof of residency. If your ID does not display your current address, please bring a piece of mail, utility bill, lease or another document with your address on it for proof of address.
If you don’t have a library card from another CWMARS library and want instant access to electronic materials, you may apply for an e-card. An e-card allows you to check out only electronic materials. Complete the online application here. An e-card can be upgraded to a physical card by showing a photo ID with your name and proof of residency when you visit the library.
Your first card is free. Replacement cards cost $1 – this fee is WAIVED during the month of September.
If you have had a card in the past and have old fines or lost or overdue items, we are happy to work with you to restore library card privileges. In most cases, issues from past libraries need to be cleared up before a new Grafton Library Card is issued.
Borrowing Materials
Please bring your Grafton Library Card to the library every time you want to check out materials. Most items (books, DVD series, videogames, kits, equipment, tools) may be checked out for three (3) weeks. Exceptions are magazines, DVDs, and 7-Day books, all of which check out for one week. Renewals for another three weeks (or one week, depending on the type of material) are automatic, unless another patron has a hold request on the item. 7-Day books cannot be renewed.
Renewals may be done in person, on the phone, or online.
Electronic materials have different borrowing models – some are always available, while others, like print, have a waitlist. You may check out up to ten (10) digital items and place ten (10) digital holds at a time. You select the borrowing period of 7, 14, or 21 days, with a renewal if no one is waiting. Electronic items “disappear” when the lending period runs out. There are no fines for digital materials.
Fines and Limits
The Grafton Public Library is proud to be fine free on Grafton material. Other libraries in the CWMARS network may continue to charge fines. Replacement costs will be billed for material that is overdue by 30 days. You are limited to 50 items checked out on your card. DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks are limited to 10 items per type. You are also allowed to have 20 items on hold at a time.
If you have $10 or more in fine and/Lost or replacement costs, your account will be blocked and you will not be able to check out more materials until you pay. You may pay fines or lost/damaged replacement costs, or make a donation to your library by credit card by accessing your account online. To access your account online, use your library card number as your user name, and your PIN as the password. To use your credit card you must have more than $5.00 in fines and/or replacement costs. You can access your account here–click on SIGN IN on the right hand side of the page.
