In anticipation of the Summer Reading Program for 2017,” Build a Better World”, the focus of this year’s Community Read is all about buildings, their architecture, and the amazing minds behind their creations, specifically Frank Lloyd Wright.

Adult Title:
Loving Frank by Nancy Horan
Fact and fiction blend in a historical novel that chronicles the relationship between seminal architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Cheney, from their meeting in Oak Park, Illinois, when they were each married to another, to the clandestine affair that shocked Chicago society.

Young Adult Title:
The Wright 3 by Blue Balliette
In the midst of a series of unexplained accidents and mysterious coincidences, sixth-graders Calder, Petra, and Tommy lead their classmates in an attempt to keep Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous Robie House from being demolished.

Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty;

Ever since he was a baby, Iggy Peck has built towers, bridges, and buildings, which comes in handy when his second grade class is stranded on an island during a picnic.



Programs for Adults & Teens:

Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Coloring   March 2  7:00-8:30 pm

Join us for an evening of Frank Lloyd Wright inspired coloring. You’ll be able to choose from postcards, stain glass coloring designs (that will look great in your window) or one of Wright’s iconic buildings. All supplies will be provided.

This program is for adults and teens in grades 6-12. Sign up is not required.


Make Frank Lloyd Wright style coasters   March 6  7:00-8:00 pm

Exercise your craftiness.  Celebrate the Friends of the Library Community Read selections by making Frank Lloyd Wright style coaters.

This program is for adults. Please register for this program.


Community Read Book Discussion: Loving Frank by Nancy Horan  March 14  7:00-9:00 pm

Due to snow storm on Tuesday, the Community Read discussion will be rescheduled.  The new date is TBA.

The Community Read discussion of the book will be held at the South Grafton Community House located at 25 Main Street, South Grafton. At 7pm refreshments will be served and chatting encouraged.  Then at 7:30pm the book discussion will begin. Please register for this program. Copies of the book are available at the library.


The Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright with Architect Kenneth Best  March 20  7:00-8:00 pm

Join architect Kenneth C. Best (AIA, ALA, CSI) and learn more about famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Please register for this program. Ken is an architect at DRA (Drummey Rosane Anderson, Inc).  When he joined the firm, he brought with him expertise in historic preservation, a commitment to sustainable design and a passion for buildings that serve the public.  He believes that his designs should not only meet the needs of the client, but should also enhance the experiences of users and have a positive impact on the community served. Public libraries make up a large percentage of his portfolio but, over his 35 year career, he has handled a variety of building types.

LEGO Club: FLW Style  March 8  3:30-5:00 pm

Join for a special Community Reads edition of LEGO Club! Build a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired creation, from a prairie style house to arts and craft style mosaics. For grades 1-6. Please register for this program. Please note our unattended child policy: under age 7, parent must remain in proximity; ages 8-12, parent must remain in building,13+ may be unattended. Thank you for your cooperation!


Community Read Storytime & Craft   March 21  3:30-5:00 pm

Join us as we read our Community Read book-Iggy Peck, Architectand then design and build your own home. All-ages. Please register for this program. The Children’s Room will be available for limited use during this program. Please note our unattended child policy: under age 7, parent must remain in proximity; ages 8-12, parent must remain in building,13+ may be unattended. Thank you for your cooperation!
