We just want them back!  Please put them in one of our drop-boxes, no questions asked.

Noise Alert through November in the Children’s Room

Posted by switham on

The Staff Kitchen in the Grafton Public Library is undergoing some much needed renovations with great thanks to the Friends of the Library. Please note that while these renovations are taking place through mid-November, a good deal of noise from saws, drills and hammers carries into the Children’s Room. We would like to alert our youngest patrons of these loud noises so as not to alarm them during their visit. A selection of Children’s items will be available to check out from the upstairs Main Reading room and staff can bring up any specific item requests for patrons who wish to avoid the noise. Thank you for your patience while the renovations take place.

Food for Fines November 1-December 31, 2015

Posted by on

Got fines? To aid the Grafton Food Bank, the Library will offer fine forgiveness in return for donations of non-perishable items for the Grafton Food Bank. The program will run November 1 through December 31.

This year, in addition to non-perishables, we are accepting Stop & Shop receipts that show you have purchased a grocery box for the Food Bank.

Please consider donating to the Girl Scout Troop #30212 Food Drive for Thanksgiving! We will waive fines also for these donated items. Please see their note and list of items below:

Hello from Junior Girl Scout Troop #30212! We’re working on our Bronze Award, and we decided that every family deserves to have the best Thanksgiving ever! Since some families don’t have enough food, we’re helping the Grafton Food Bank collect all the food they need. Did you know that they will make 125 baskets of food for families? That’s a lot! We also hope to donate items for a table setting – a table cloth, pumpkin & leaves. These items will be purchased by our Girl Scout Troop.
The Grafton Food Bank has told us that they need 125 each of:
Bread Mixes (banana, etc.)
Pie crust in a box
Pie filling
Stuffing mix
Cranberry sauce
The Food Bank also needs 250:
Canned green beans
Canned corn
Please go to the troop’s SignUpGenius page to commit to donating one or many of these items!
Of course, we’re in a hurry! We need to get all of this food to the Grafton Food Bank by November 15th. Food can be dropped off in the boxes at Stop & Shop, the Grafton Public Library or at the Municipal Center (we will pick them up and sort them). If you would like to donate cash instead, we can use that to buy nice things for their Thanksgiving table. All donations received will go directly to the Grafton Food Bank.
We will be at Stop & Shop collecting donations on 11/1, 8, & 14, please keep an eye out for us!
Thank you for helping us to make Thanksgiving a happy holiday for everyone.
Junior GS Troop #30212

Please bring non-perishable canned or boxed goods, OR personal care items in lieu of cash for Library fines. The value of donated items should total the fine amount. Please note that we cannot accept open, damaged, expired, recalled or perishable items, and Food for Fines applies only to overdue fines, and does not extend to fees for printing, faxing, lost materials, or replacement Library cards.

For more details about Food for Fines, or to discuss other alternatives to fees and bring your library card to good standing, please contact Susan Leto at 508-839-4649 x1105 or by email at graftonlibrary.ma@gmail.com.

Writing Workshop for Kids ages 9-12 with Author Jen Malone

Posted by switham on

Author Jen Malone will lead a writing workshop for kids ages 9-12 on Wednesday, November 4 from 3:30-5 p.m. In this workshop, participants will create a character from scratch. Breaking into groups, participants will dress her, create a collection for her, or decorate her room while others draw maps of her town or an agreed upon setting for our story. Once we know who she is and where she lives, we’ll work together to start her on an adventure. Then, participants will each write a finish to her story and complete our session with a read-aloud of our character’s many alternative endings!

Jen Malone writes books for tweens and teens. Her middle grade titles include At Your Service, the You’re Invited series (co-written with Gail Nall), and next year’s The Sleepover, all with Simon & Schuster/Aladdin. Her Young Adult titles (with HarperCollins/HarperTeen) include Map to the Stars and the forthcoming Wanderlost with HarperCollins. You can learn more about her and her titles at www.jenmalonewrites.com.

Please sign up in the Library, call 508-839-4649 or email graftonlibrary.org.
