DEAD SEA SCROLLS AT THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE!

In 1947, a goatherd wandered into one of the many hidden caves along the banks of the Dead Sea — and concealed inside were ancient scrolls that had not been seen in 2,000 years. These Dead Sea Scrolls include literary writings of the times and the oldest known texts of the Bible, making their discovery perhaps the most significant archaeological find of the last century.
Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see fragments of the priceless scrolls (some never displayed in North America), along with one of the most comprehensive collection of antiquities from Israel ever organized. Highlights include a three-ton stone from Jerusalem’s Western Wall, limestone capitals from the first temple period (1000 – 586 BCE), ossuaries from the early Roman period, and an ancient signature preserved for millennia on the Archer Seal. Together these artifacts reveal precious details about the culture, rituals, and beliefs of an influential Iron Age people.

Who Needs Libraries?
WE ALL DO!  And we use them; a lot!  The Mass. Board of Library Commissioners has prepared a video highlighting how many more visits are made to public libraries than to Fenway, the Garden, or Gillette Stadium.  View it on  You-Tube for an insightful look into the role of public libraries in Massachusetts.

Construction Update
The Library has officially closed until June 10! Thank you for holding your materials at home until we reopen.

All pending holds will be sent to the Millbury Library at 128 Elm St, Millbury MA for pickup. If you have an item that has been in transit for more than 3 weeks, please call the library at 508-839-5335 x162 and we will request another copy.

Visit the Library's satellite location at the Municipal Center, 30 Providence Road, for museum passes, eBook help, to request materials, get a library card, or find answers to your reference questions! We are there Mon-Thu 9am-8pm and Fri 9-5.

Construction is progressing at the library building. The concrete foundation for the wheelchair lift is in place. Doors, shelving and moldings have been marked for salvage. The electrician has been through to do some wiring. Stairs for the new walkway are pending. About 80% of the materials have been drawn and submitted for approval, and many items - the lift, steel, concrete, and more - have already been ordered. Carpet and tile have been approved. The LULA has been ordered and will be installed the week of June 10.

The construction team is expected to completely take over the building by Monday 4/29 and hit it hard for five weeks, working simultaneously on the lift, restroom, and other life and safety issues to bring the building up to code.

Thanks for your patience, and check out construction photos on Flickr!
