Jerome Wheelock’s Birthday Party
35 Grafton Common
Grafton, MA 01519
Join us at the Grafton Public Library for cake, punch and general merriment on Saturday June 20 from 2-3 pm as we celebrate what would be benefactor Jerome Wheelock’s 181st birthday! We’ll provide bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and other activities on the front lawn. Tom Casey will provide musical entertainment, and the Aldrich Astronomical Society will present a very special birthday gift to the Library!
Stop in after visiting Big Truck Day (Grafton Middle/High School, 10am-12pm) or the Grafton Historical Society’s Arts & Antiques Fair (Grafton Common, 9-3).
Jerome Wheelock was an American inventor born in Grafton, who made his fame and fortune with a number of industrial revolution inventions, including the Wheelock steam cylinder packing and a steam engine valve. He donated $100,000.00 to build a Town Hall or Public Library, and in 1927 the funds matured to allow construction of the current Grafton Public Library at 35 Grafton Common. His statue of “heroic size” overlooks the Grafton Common.
Please join us in wishing Jerome a very happy birthday! Visit www.graftonlibrary.org/events for more information, or contact Beth Gallaway, Library Director, at 508-839-4649 x1105.
